Willow Culture Project

September 2007

My concept is to develop alternative and sustainable land use and livelihood by creative management and utilisation of new crops of willow coppice in Northumberland.

The centre of activity is at Dilston and includes work areas and gallery at Dilston near Corbridge.

Visitors are welcome for educational and group activities by prior arrangement.

Coppicing will commence in October with materials such as withies and rods available for sale.

Currently work is in progress making large chestnut tables and benches as well as other furniture such as creepie chairs. All are available for sale.

Donald Anderson

I have 49 yrs experience in woodland work and woodland management including the traditional coppice growing and broadleaved woodland areas of the south country and on the large estates in the north of England and Scotland.

My creativity constantly draws on this experience and what I feel about the characteristics and inherent beauty of our native wood as used in imaginative and unusual forms.

I am also inspired by the potential of willow as the most likely crop for curing some of our pollution problems by bio filtration and carbon sequestration and for counter erosion measures.
